sounds like your fuel pump is working maybe a kinked line limiting pressure or strainner if none of those sounds like a electrical problem controlling your fuel pump cause the pump if defective doesnt just work when it wants to that would be electrical to fuel pump or the ecm that controls the fuel pump or your strainner in the tank is shot and you got some debris in the fins of the pump locking it up after its been run for awhile youll know that tho if you dropped the tank pull the sending unit and inspect the strainner for holes in it.

My thoughts. Fuel pump may not be putting out enough pressure, could be a clogged fuel filter. I would replace the fuel filter first. Good thing to do regardlessly. Check fuel pump relay on firewall. Should have open wire plug. You can run jumper wire from pos side of batt to it. That bypasses the relay and powers your fuel pump. With pump powered check if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rails. Looks like tire valve. Press and if sprays gas your good to that point.

Replace fuel pump. While you are replacing pump, look closely at the rubber hoses on the sending unit. It is common for them to split or crack from age, reducing amount of fuel pressure pump is able to put out and will cause motor to run poorly, or not at all.

Check and replace the ignition module in your distributor mine did the same thing it was bad shutting down the system. It would not let the fuel pump work don't have it tested it will show ok, just put in a newone it worked to fix my 93 5.7 tbi.
