ok so i own a 83 k5 with a 350 and 700r4. Im having starting issues. I have replaced the starter solenoid, ignition switch, neutral safety switch, and battery cables and terminals. This is what it does, ill turn the key to the "on" and turn the key like id start it, the choke light comes on but as soon as the key is twisted all the way to engage the starter i lose all power battery gauge goes from 12-13 volts to 0, and i checked the battery and its reading right at 12.5 volts. Its done it before but id just leave it alone and waits a lil while then it would start up just fine again, i dunno what to do. another thing dunno if this is relevant but the seatbelt light used to come on when i turned the key to the "on" spot and doesn't anymore.

Is the ignition switch adjusted properly? My parts 'burban did the same thing. A little more tweaking on the ignition cylinder would allow it to start. Have you tried adjusting the ignition switch towards the steering wheel a bit further?

 

hmm ill play around with it and let u know what happens

 

so i ran out and adjusted it real quick, no change. but i did notice that sometimes when i turned the key my voltage gauge wouldnt read at all

 

Are all of your main power & ground wires under the hood in good condition? Have you checked for voltage drop at the battery when you turn the key to the 'start' position?

 

all the grounds look good, but i havent checked the voltage drop yet, i did jump the starter and the truck cranked and almost started but i didnt give it any gas so it didnt fire up all the way

 

mine was doing that and there was a plastic diamond shape jumper on the engine firewall under the hood that was bad.
