I finally got everything running in my 85 K5 and put the hood back on but now it won't open. When we first put it on it was popping open like it's supposed to then we took it for a test drive. When we got back we could see some fluid leaking and went to open the hood and it will not pop no matter what. We tried the Fonzie tap, lightly prying with a crowbar, pushing down, pulling up, all while having someone pulling the release cable and it won't release. The cable feels as if it's done it's part and doesn't have tension on it anymore. Does anyone know of any kind of trick to get the latch to release the hood? Would it be possible to try and run a metal hanger to the latch and try prying the hook over to release it? I would attempt to take the grill off to dismantle the latch but all of the screws that hold the grill on are under the hood. Would using a wedge to pry up on the hood help anything or would it just damage the hood? I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

yeah you can. ive done it in the past, and it happens at work with other cars. your best bet is to look online or even better if you know someone with a k5 you can look at to know what your grabbing for. you just have to hook the latch. last time i just used a brake line. usually what happens is the cable stretches and it doesnt pull all the way. i usually have to put a zip tie in the space between the cable and the latch.
