Im looking for information on how to perform this upgrade, but really can't find any suprisgly. I have a 87 GMC Full size Jimmy, 350 5.7L. I want to upgrade the engine to a newer engine and still pass CA smog. I know of the E-ROD engine but at 9k for engine and 2k for tranny, im hesitant. I would like to get a junkyard engine but have no clue where to start or what a good upgrade motor would be.

Any information or links would be greatly appreciated!! I plan to document the whole thing from start to finish (smog refree) and put it out there for everybody. Youtube videos along with snapshots, pitfalls, comments....etc.

Ive seen it on Extreme 4 x 4 but they make it seem so easy, just plug and play and get er done.

Anybody done this?

 

Would a Vortec 4800 LR4 be a good replacement for a GM 350 5.7L?
