Post 89 GMC Jimmy Full Size..Won't crank and Quits Running

Hard to crank if it cranks and will quit as if turn switch off..Have put new fuel tank, sending unit, fuel pressure relay and fuel filter on it..If it cranks, you may drive for miles without quitting or you may go short distance and it will just quit..Seems hard to crank and sometime won't crank without priming the TBI..Can anyone help?

Please clarify what you mean by crank... To me, crank = the starter is turning the motor over. From the sounds of your use of the word, you are using it to mean that the engine is catching and trying to run, but may not always run properly and sometimes, when the engine does start, it will randomly quit on you.

Have you tested the fuel pressure (requires a special t-fitting)?

That is correct, and sometime when it cranks it will run fine but then other times, it will act as if you lose power or fuel while driving and stop running. I am considering changing the TBI (I have another one to put on) and have been researching whether the oil pressure switch could be a factor. I am in trial and error mode. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Fuel pressure has been tested but only to confirm that fuel pump is properly working.

Do you see fuel spray out of the injectors?

Have you tested the MAP sensor or checked/cleaned the EGR valve?

Have now determined that with both TBI's, sometime will spray gas from injectors and sometime will not spray.

Well now, put original TBI back on last night and still would not run..Got up this morning, hit the switch and it started right up..Cranked good and runs good..Have no idea? I will drive it few days and see if it happens again.
