Automatic Locking Hub Question
'86 K5, 350, auto o/d trans. driving in 2h I get a grinding/whirring noise from the front end, come to a complete stop, hear noticeable clunk, take off again, noise is gone (for awhile). I suspect the hubs are trying to engage. Am i guessing correctly? If so, would warn or milemaker manual hubs correct the annoying noise?
If you have the factory Automatic hubs, this could definitely be the case. Most people dump the auto-hubs for manuals. Both Warn or Mile Marker hubs work quite well. If you can swing the $$$ for a set of Warn Premiums, they are great.
Hi-- I am owner of an 1987 K5 blazer w 350 V8, 700-R4 automatic, NP208 transfer case, and automatic locking hubs. I am getting a grinding noise from the right front end (especially after running in 4H and shifting back out to 2H. I am thinking that the hub is not disengaging all the way? Sometime backing up fast for 50 ft will fix it, but not always. I think? that putting Warn manual locking hubs on it may fix the problem. Is there anything I need to know about my front axle before I order to get the correct Warn Hubs for my truck? Thanks.
