ECT?

Can anyone explain to me what this is...i been told to check this for my issue but i have no idea what it is...and how would i test it??

It refers to [E]ngine [C]oolant [T]emperature sensor on the newer v-8's. According to my information for a 1997 5.0/5.7L the ECT is mounted just below the thermostat in the intake manifold...the 87 version may take its readings off of the temp guage sensor..where that is located I am not sure since my information does not go back that far. Go to the library (local of course) they should have a section of manuals for automotive repair and find your year and read up. Or you could call you local dealer and ask the service department if they could printout a sheet from their manual for the location of the sensor in question...

Your 87 is located close to the t-stat housing also. Look for a connector with 2 wires- black, yellow. It is not the same as the gauge sensor, that is located in the head.
