Default Have problem restarting when warmed up

I just purchased a 93 4x4 and was told it had a problem starting after it warmed up. When you turn the key nothing happens. All electrical is on and working but the engine won't turn over. After waiting a while it starts no problem.

Suggestions?

Do the lights dim at all when you turn the key to START? If not, it is possible that the starter solenoid is getting hot and not doing anything when triggered.

X2 Not sure if it originally came with a heat shield over the solenoid but you can probably fab one up pretty easily. If it did come with one you should be able to find one in a junk yard fairly cheap.

Sounds like the solenoid, best thing to do is just get a new starter all togather. Usually when a solenoid goes, so does the starter because the starter pulls more amperage than normal. I think normal amp draw on a starter from that year is about 110 amps. Just to be sure and keep from having to spend a mint on a new starter, take it to an Advance Auto Parts and get it tested. Ask them to test yours and a new one off the shelf. i will put money on it you will hear a difference in sound and a diff in amp draw. Heck, yours may be pulling as much as 150 amps!

Default thanks everyone for their comments

I also thought it was the starter, just wanted to see if it was reoccurring trait with this model.
The previous owner said he replaced the started a few years ago. I didn't ask if it was a factory, rebuilt or after market, but it sounds like it needs replacing again.

thanks again!
