park not holding

i have a1991 fullsize blazer th400automatic trans when shift to parkwill not hold still clicking noise from trans what can i do to repair this?

The indicator (not the technical term, I know) slides past P, doesn't it? Is the shifter loose?

no my shifter is not loose checked linkage notloose

Trannies are not my strong suit, but it sounds like the parking pawl in the trans has broken or worn so that it does not hold.

Yes that is what it sounds like the pin or pawl is worn or broke to were when you put it in park it will not hold at all!! Looks like the tranni needs to get serviced for this part!!
