Default Rear axle swap

I have a 1990 GMC Jimmy and would like to find an upgrade to my 10 bolt axle. Preferably something with rear disc brakes. My wife had a 2001 Chevy 2500 that had a 14 bolt rear and disc brakes. If I could find something like that, from a salvage vehicle, that would be awesome. Has anyone done a swap with something they know works well without a ton of modification?

Default axle swap

REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 Express 2500
It seams like a 2500, 14 bolt axle from a van would be the best option because it has disc brakes, but doesn't have the big center hub which would interfere with my rims. I would have to bolt on a 6 lug conversion adapter. I wonder exactly how wide the van axle assembly is?

Default

The light c2500's have a 9.5" 14 bolt with 6 lugs and small center, but would need a disc brake conversion. This was a direct swap for my k1500 other than a conversion u joint.
