I'm stumped. everything was working fine. one day when i was on my way back from fishing. i noticed by battery was not charging. i take the alt. to get checked and it was ok. but the guy at the auto parts store told me it did not have enough amps for the truck. i bought the right one 78 amps and put it on now a squeaking noise coming from the smog pump it ran great for a few days (still making the squeaking noise) then the same thing battery went down to 8v. so next i did the same with the battery store said it was ok, but same thing alternator wont charge. any ideas?


Ive checked all wires and starter. made sure the battery ground was good. another thing when i disconnect the 2 wire that plug in to the alternator the smog pump stops squealing wired any ideas?

Is it still squealing? Maybe there is a problem with the smog pump that is causing the belt to slip on the crank?...

 

yeah its still squealing. it only stops if i unplug the 2 wires from the alt. the belts not slipping. it all most seams like the alt. is draining the power not adding power to the battery

 

thanks swartlkk it was the smog pump i took it apart today and cleaned everything and presto no squealing and the alt. is charging 13v. but after i drove it a while here comes the squeals but at least i know its the pump :-) im thinking of removing it sense we dont have emissions where i live. 406 stroker one step closer !!!
