battery reading 18V

Default battery reading 18V

hello one and all. This is my predicament ... I have a 1993 Chevy Blazer K-5... my issue is at my battery i am getting 18v across the terminals. this is not good. can anyone HELP? where to start?... what to look for? thank you ahead of time for the assist.

sounds like your alternator is overcharging. connections tight? sorry forgot the most important question, is the engine running or off?

engine is running... i switched it out for another alternator.... and got the same numbers...

With the key in the ON position, engine not running, is there battery voltage on the brown wire at the plug on the alternator?
