Default Speedometer cable

I have a 1988 K5 Blazer with Cruise control. I am looking for a new speedometer cable but I am told that it is a two peice cable I need to get. The one thats on my K5 now is a single 100 inch cable. Can anyone tell me if it really matters wheather I have a 1 or 2 peice speedometer cable and where the heck I can find a replacement. Anything will help. Thanks

if your cruise doesnt work then you can just get another one piece cable. i know on the older ones it ran through abox and you needed the 2 piece for cruise to work

What happened to your cable ? If it's the inner core go to a NAPA store and they sell a kit make your own cable if the housing is still good .If it's not go to a truck parts store and they can make one up with your ends as a guide . Hope that helps

When I had my new exhaust installed the tools that did it just left my speedometer cable laying right on top. When I drove to Montana a few days later it got fried. Ever since that happened my engine light comes on and off when ever I get on the gas and let off. Weird, so I now I am replacing it.

K5 has 2 different setups for speedomoter cables.

2 piece (cruise control)
1 cable goes from the transmission or transfer case to the cruise control module. and the 2nd cable goes from the cruise module to the speedo head. The cruise module is mounted on the left fenderwell in front of the firewall. It looks like an octopus with all kinds of vacuum lines and wires.

1 piece (no cruise)... 1 long cable from the transmission / transfer case to the speedo head.

I deleted Cruise control on my '82. I went from the 2 piece cruise cable set, to the 1 piece cruise cable. It works like a dream!

Be sure to disconnect the one from the cruise to the firewall FIRST. this will give you the slack you need to get the speedo-head out.

When reinstalling, install the speedo end first and then work your way back to the other end.
