speedometer changed to machanical....???
I have a 85 k5 with a new process 241 transfer case, I am trying to put a machanical speedometer in the truck and transfer case tail shaft has electronic hook up on it... Can this be changed to machanical and if so what is the process.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
The old gauge i pulled out was machanical, so im not sure if tranfer case or its the gauge thats not orignal for this year?

If you are set on using a mechanical speedo, you will need to find the rear bearing housing from a '89 blazer or suburban. '89 was the first year for the NP241 in the K5 & Suburban and the ONLY year available with a mechanical speedo.
Or you could do the SYE (slip yoke eliminator) conversion to the rear output which will come with the mechanical speedo parts.

will either one of these options require any modifactions to drive shaft? longer, shorter? Where can i aquire the parts for the conversions (sye). Sounds eaiser then the hunting game of year specifect transfer case? Not sure was just trying to go easy and cheap on this gauge swap
Is the bearing housing part of the transfer case or is this just the transmission tail shaft housing? not sure of this

If you do the SYE conversion, you will have to get a new rear driveshaft that can extend.
If you just change out the rear housing (and possibly the rear output shaft), you should be able to reuse your driveshaft.
Another option, albeit expensive, is to get an electronic to mechanical conversion box.
