Default Starter problems

I have a 71 blazer. I have been having starter problems with it. At least that's what I believe. I got 4 shims on a new starter and at first no issues. Now it grinds a bit and hard starts. Same as the starter I replaced. Anyone else have this issue in the past?

so you got 4 shims on the starter, thats moving the starter away from the flywheel and when you crank the starter over it already wants to move away from the flywheel. i think you may have too many shims in their. Ive only ever seen 1 shim in the starter, give that whirl and let us know how it goes.

Thanks war00, The old starter had no shims at all. It started to grind a bit so I shimmed it with one shim It worked for a while and then started giving me problems again.
