Default vent fan intermittent on 87 K5 Blazer - fixed!

For some reason, my vent fan works intermittently. I have tried all positions and fan speeds at different intervals. It just works whenever. I've checked the fuse as well. Iam beginning to believe it is just the age of the unit, along with wear/tear over time, that is causing my problem, and to have the unit replaced.

I would appreciate any advise or pointers if there is something else that could be the cause of my problem that I may be missing.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this is exactly what you need but, here is the idea - Blower motor resistor:

Pretty cheap - I know I need a vacuum switch for mine!

Hope that helps!

If it works intermittently, I would suspect worn brushes in the motor. If it is not working, will it begin to work if you hit the blower motor sharply?

Where is this part located? Within the dash?

I am suspecting themotor is worn and needs replacement due to age and wear/tear. Good thing the dash pad is original and cracked because I have hit it a couple of times to see if that gets the motor going. I have not hit the motor directly though. It just seems to work when it wants to if I hit the dash or not.

I decided to replace the motor, since I had the time and the price for a new motor was only $20. I connected ground and power to the new motorbefore I removed the old one just to see if it worked. Presto! It worked great. So, I swapped the motors, reconnected ground and power, started the truck, andran the fan on different speeds using heat, A/C and defrost. Everything ran great! One of the retaining screwswas a little difficult to get to...but that's okay. Problem solved!

Thanks to everyone for their help!
