I have a 01' s-10 blazer. I have been replacing parts on it for a long while now and it is in need of some more maintenance once I figure out what the metal on metal noise is when driving slowly.
What I have done recently, replaced shocks x4, replaced front and rear brake pads, replaced rear brake calipers.

The noise can only be heard when I am driving slowly and with my windows down, so it is not too loud yet but it is very noticeable with windows down. It does not increase or decrease when braking. Would this possibly be something wrong with the bearings?
The steering for the blazer also makes what I can only describe as a aching/popping noise when turning the wheel far to the left, what could that be?

Have you tried jacking the Blzr up and putting it on jack stands. Put the jack stands under the lower A arms to simulate on road conditions. Then with trans in neutral , try spinning each tire by hand. If that doesn't reproduce the noise, try this very carefully. Crank the engine and put it in gear. Very carefully and slowly , increase the revs til you hear the squeal. See if you can walk to each tire and hear where the noise is coming from. Don't get under to get a closer look. Too dangerous. ! This noise can be a lot of items from a bent splash shield, brake components, bearings, alxes, and many other parts.

The pop is usually a tire rubbing a inside fender or suspension component. Try to reproduce the noise in your drive or a desolate road and as soon as you hear it, stop, but keep the steering wheel in the same position Get out and look and both front tires to see where they are rubbing. Sometimes going to a larger tire on a stock wheel is all it takes to rub and cause a pop. Or getting a bigger tire and wheel combo can do it, also. Be careful with all these tests!

The better and safer way to do this is with a shop with a lift. Again place the lift points under the front and rear suspension to allow the wheels to spin freely. Raise the lift and spin the wheels slowly until you hear the squeal. Note which wheel{s} is making the noise and it should be safe to get under with a light to see if you can see where the problem is.
After the lift test, you may want to get the suspension parts lubed to see if that quiets the squeal. Run it again after the lube to see if it helps. Good luck and let us know what you find.

 

I think this is implied with the recommendation above, but just in case, is it possible there is rubbing of the splash shields for the brakes?
