A plane like a Boeing 747 uses approximately 1 gallon of fuel (about 4 liters) every second. Over the course of a 10-hour flight, it might burn 36,000 gallons (150,000 liters). According to Boeing's Web site, the 747 burns approximately 5 gallons of fuel per mile (12 liters per kilometer).
This sounds like a tremendously poor miles-per-gallon rating! But consider that a 747 can carry as many as 568 people. Let's call it 500 people to take into account the fact that not all seats on most flights are occupied. A 747 is transporting 500 people 1 mile using 5 gallons of fuel. That means the plane is burning 0.01 gallons per person per mile. In other words, the plane is getting 100 miles per gallon per person! The typical car gets about 25 miles per gallon, so the 747 is much better than a car carrying one person, and compares favorably even if there are four people in the car. Not bad when you consider that the 747 is flying at 550 miles per hour (900 km/h)!

I was thinking about removing the luggage rack on the jimmy... Did a photoshop of it, realized it looked like a rental car than, and not worth the small improvement.

make sure your evap system is working properly and that you have a clean tire. also is odd as it sounds a cleaner car will get better mpg then a dirty car due to less drag from the dirt particles

Iv got a 2001 4x4 with 33" mudder fuggurs raised 5/5 with six beam penetrators on my saferri rack. Spare tire out back with a bull bar on the front. 14 inch wide trailer mirrors with 2 hand held search lights. If I debadge my truck will that help my mileage. Oh I forgot my new 12 foot whip antenna.

The best way to help your mileage is to buy a Prius and park your truck and drive it only for special occasions! The gas you save will probably pay for your Prius.

wow what great responces, i had also foung buy keeping the RPM's under 3000 when starting out, i get desent MPG, and on long hiway trips, 68 MPH@ 1800 rpm is the best MPG/speed that my truck seems to run at...
im getting 23+ almost 24 MPG.. only hiway though

I believe 21 highway, but 17 in town I question. I have owned two stock height stock tire size Blazers & 16 was the best I ever got the avg is 13-15.

Depends on the town. I have constant stop and go up and down hills where i am and i maybe get 13 in pure city. But if im cruising the entire time at 35 up and down those hills with no stops i can easily get 17.

With my roof rack on i wonder how much it reduces my mpg. Since i have to drive a lot more in the winter im thinking about removing it.
