Make sure to prioritize tracking those three ground attachments to the vehicle from the battery negative terminal and make sure both your battery terminals are clean and tight. At the time that the hazard lights and headlights spontaneously turned were the switches in the on position for those two loads?

Good evening George. So got some exciting news. I changed out the melted negative battery cable but upon removal I found the negative battery cable on the bracket that holds the alternator. Also the battery cable was all wrong so went to pick-n-pull where my son's wrecked 04 blazer is and took the negative battery cable from that. Installed the cable and redid some of the wiring back to the radiator support next to the mega fuse location. Installed battery back in and now there was spark from the battery that I didn't get before. The security light was flashing so waited patiently for that to stop. Once that stopped put the key in and turned the key over and everything has power and engine finally starts. I was so excited!!!

So now comes the bad news. After letting the engine warm up a bit my worst nightmare hit. Engine was making noise and then a loud ticking noise whiched turned into a loud knock noise. Shut it off right away and checked everything out started up again and noise got louder. Stepped on the gas pedal to move forward and the noise got really loud and the movement was slow. So yeah engine is shot. So disappointed after all the help just to have the engine go to crap. Told my son about the bad engine so now he wants to do an engine swap from a 4.3 litre to 5.7 litre short block.

I can't thank you enough George for your time in helping me get this Blazer up and going. Will reach put to you to let you know how this engine swap goes. Thanks again George!!!

If you want normal things to work like speedo, gauges, transmission, 4wd, air conditioning, etc you can't just hack things up and stick in a carbureted 350. All of these things and more are integrated into the vehicle computer system.

Best and easiest 5.7 swap for a 2000 Blazer is the stock Vortec 5.7 from late 1990s pickups since the fuel injection system is virtually the same and with a few mods will work with your original PCM and fuel pump - and look like factory.

I am going to bow out of this thread and hand it over to Les because he’s much more versed on what the subject has morphed into. We have an unwritten policy here that once somebody takes the lead on a thread that they stay in charge unless they ask for help, and this is the perfect handoff you’re in good hands. George.
