I have a Craftsman set which i love. I like to stick with american made but honestly.. if you have a Harbor Freight near you, i would go shopping there for wrenches and sockets because they are cheap and have a lifetime warranty and obviously dont have moving parts so theres really nothing to break and if it does take it back. But dont buy tools with moving parts at HF lol like socket wrenches..

I bought the step up cone shape type drill bits (forgot the name) at HF for my bumper thinking they would only get through a couple holes but one bit made it through all 12 holes in 1/4" steel and are still sharp. 13$ for 3 bits at HF and 60$ for 1 at Home Depot.. Yes you CAN get decent stuff at HF. Just saying.

I got this for 190 plus tax last christmas, lots of sockets and a good selection of wrenches all in trays for a tool box plus lifetime warranty.

So I think I'm going with the following as a beginning set...is there anything obvious that I have left out or will definitely need/want? My only goal is to learn to perform the maintenance and repairs of my vehicle myself (with the help of blazerforum.com of course!)

-Craftsman 182 pc. Mechanics Tool Set with 3-Drawer Chest
-Craftsman 10 in. Pliers, Locking Curved Jaw with Wire Cutter
-Craftsman 3 pc. Adjustable Wrench Set
-Craftsman 3 pc. Pliers Set
-Craftsman 5 pc. Screwdriver Set

I have kept every below $200 using the disount code "SAVEONTOOLS" good until 9/29.

"Sears: Tool Mega Sale! Save up to 50% Off Tools & Tool Storage + Extra $10 Off $75, Extra $15 Off $100, Extra $35 Off $200 or Extra $60 Off $300 with code. Ends 9/29/12."

Any suggestions. CanI get away with some tools cheaper or is this all a pretty good deal? Thanks guys.

I think your set. The rest of your tools can be from harbor freight. =D
