Question Best price for selling your old Cat. Conv.?

I changed out my girlfriend's CAT on her 1998 Chevy Blazer V-6 with a MagnaFlow direct fit CAT. Now the question is...what do you do with the old OEM cat? Since Platinum, Paladium and Rhodium are the precious metals used in the CAT it has value as recycle scrap. I've received quotes from $75 to $110 by various recycle centers but the trick is you have to ship it to them at a cost of about $13 by UPS.

Does anyone know who pays top dollar for these old scrap CATs? Link to website or info on who to contact?

Thanks!

I discovered recycling old CATs is quite a big business and the price you get depends on a couple of things:

1. Which specific CAT it is because some contain a lot more precious metals than others.
2. The "honesty" of the purchaser in giving a fair price for the old CAT. I shouldn't really use the word "honesty" but I've heard enough stories of purchasers who flat out lie to the sellers. I supposed it's all fair in love-n-war and the seller should educate himself on the value of the CAT before selling it so we can't blame it all on the purchaser who is trying to get the best deal he can.

Here's the followup...

My girlfriend ended up selling it to Sparrow Metals. The owner, Jim, went out of his way to answer all questions quickly via email, gave the best price of $110 and was very quick to pay her the $110 via PayPal using the friends/family option so that she didn't have to pay any PayPal fees to receive money. At your option he will also mail you a certified check instead of PayPal. It cost her $12 to ship it via FedEx Ground which was the very best shipping cost. In the end the $98 in profit went a long way to offset the cost of the $163 she paid for the MagnaFlow direct fit Cat replacement.

if you checked for a local metal recycling yard you may have saved yourself the shipping

A couple years ago I spotted a couple guys walking past my place carrying back packs with pipes sticking out on a saturday evening
They also had cats. in their hands
I called POPO and I swear ever car in the city showed up for the party
Turned out the guys were hitting parking lots and cutting them off parked cars
I hate thieves

Yup, none of the scrap yards around here were interested in recycling CATS. I got the impression that they ran into too many problems with thieves trying to sell them stolen material that they just decided to stay out of it. I think the $110 minus the $12 shipping cost was the very best that could be milked out of that old CAT.
