I found a zr2 on craigslist and I'm going to check it out this weekend. I was wondering what zr2 specific problems I should look for? Here's the details on it
2000 blazer Ls zr2
68,200 miles
4 button 4wd
Maroon color
Newer tires 4k on them
Factory radio cd and cassette in the console
Chrome tube running boards
Bug deflector on hood
Rain guards
Sun roof
Add says "little rust"
Interior "like new"
Passenger side flares look like they need repainted but not bad
Power everything
Tilt wheel
Ac
Electric rear hatch with defrost
No fog lights :/
He wants $4500 that dead on with kbb but what do you think I should offer

1. Bring a code reader with you. If the SES light is not already on, do a GM driving cycle test if you can on it General Motors Driving Cycle If the SES doesn't light up, that's encouraging. If it does, hook up the code reader and see what you got. Review the DTC Codes in this forum to familiarize yourself with the codes.
2. While the engine is hot, get under the hood and listen very closely all around the LIM. If you hear hissing or something of that nature, the gasket is bad and will have to be replaced.
3. Pull the dipstick, look closely at the oil to insure it is translucent and not milky in any way. Check under the oil fill cap to see if it looks like chocolate milk or is foamy.
4. Make sure it will go into all the 4WD options. The selection you make should light up without any blinking.
5. Check the fender at the bottom just in front of the rear wheels for rust that is about to pop through the paint.
Ummmm...that's top of my head, but I'm sure there are more great suggestions coming..

Thanks for the advice what's the SES light for? I'm not a newbie to blazers it just they're getting old and this one doesn't have many miles so I'm tryin to cover my bases. I've got an 03 4dr Ls 4x4 right now still going strong but I've been wanting a zr2 to.

SES = "Service Engine Soon". Or on that year it may be a CEL "Check Engine Light"? Hell I don't know....just look for the light that stays on after you start the truck
(besides the brake light IF the parking brake is still on).
EDIT: One very important thing I forgot about!...when you turn the key to the run position, before you crank the engine...look at all the lights on the dash that light up. Make sure there is an SES lamp lighting and it hasn't been disabled. All the lights go thru a self check when you turn the key to run, so if the SES light isn't there at all...it's been disabled. Hook your code reader up to the OBD II port and see if it retrieves any codes.

Just my two cents from my last purchase but check and see where the gas level is and ask when was the last time it was filled completely up.
I had an issue when I bought mine where it was a half tank, purchased it and then went to fill up. Next thing I know I have gas pouring out of the top of the tank.
It might be hard to get your hands up there but check and see how rusty it is if possible or if you see/ feel any holes. If so then between a new tank, lines and suggest fuel pump your looking at a few hundred bucks if you do it. Maybe closer to a grand for a shop.
Just food for thought.

Thanks rock on the 03s it's a check engine so that's why I was wondering and yeah planned on watching the lights make sure one wasn't burned out or something.
Sonj I wouldn't be doing it myself fuel pumps on these things aRe a PITA. What would be rusted I thought the gas tanks on these things were plastic (at least they are on the 03s)? Filler neck?
Since his add says little rust it's probably safe to assume the rear bumper and maybe the rockers are starting to rust even though it looks ok in the pics. I'm thinking if those places are rusted I'll see if I can get about 500 off to take it to a body shop to have it fixed. I know a guy who ones a shop. Hmmm maybe I could just clean up and bed line trouble spots idk

My '00 ZR2 was a metal tank in the rear end just past the back axel up where the spare tire normally is. I do know the 4 non ZR2 blazers in the family had a plastic tank along side the frame rail on the drive side however. Those ranged from 98 to 2004. I cannot speak for all blazers but thats what I have seen from my experience.
So dont trust badges stating ZR2, you may want to confirm using the VIN or the codes in the glove box to ensure its a true ZR2.

Ok I'll check out the gas tank then. There aren't any zr2 stickers on this one but it has the flares and looks like the stance is right. I'll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out. I planned on checking the glove box for it and the g80, gt4 codes.
I know the zr2s have 31" tires but isn't there a metric measurement that is the same soze? Of so what is it just incase this one has them. I know the tire sizes for the normal blazers 235/75/15 and 235/70/15
Ps I don't think the person selling it realizes it's a ZR2 the ad title is 2000 Chevy blazer Ls
