CV boot replacement
Is it easier to replace the boot or just replace the whole axle. I've seen where they have a split boot you have to glue together after putting on. Are they any good? Looks like the drivers side axle is harder to change than the passenger side which i did 2 years ago and didnt have any problems getting the axle out, hell it just pulled right out didnt have to pry or hammer or anything. Several years ago I had the inner boot needing replacement on the driver's side while under a time-crunch, so I got a new axle. Problem was I couldn't get the new axle into the front diff.
I ended up doing a boot replacement to be ableto reuse the original axle. The reason I was initially hesitant to do the boot replacement was concern over having lost grease in the CV joint and having possible contamination. It turned out not to be a problem.
I got a replacement boot kit from NAPA that included the grease I needed. With the CV joint disassembled, it was easy to clean the joint and then install the new, one-piece boot.
