dipstick burnt me
i have an 03 blazer with 4.6 in it i recently switched to synthetic oil on the oil change the next day i drove 5 miles to work and checked my oil and the dipstick burnt me. does anyone have a clue as to why my oil is getting that hot, and what i should check to fix this. thanks for the help

oil is in the engine to do a couple of things, among them is heat removal. by cycling through the engine, it carries heat from the moving parts into the resevoir, where it cools before heading back into the engine.
That cycle brings with it a gradual loss in it's ability to dissipate ALL heat, and cause the oil to heat up. this is also why on cold mornings, it takes an extra few minutes before you car "warms up" and drives like you know and love.
in the end, 01vortec is right though. checking your oil after driving will get you at least scalded. you should check your oil cool/cold and your transmission at temp.
