Default Door remote

Hi

I have a question about the key-less entry remote for my 98 LS. It seems to me that lately I have to be standing much closer to the truck for it to work and unlock the doors which makes me think that the hand held remote is giving it up. Is there a battery that needs to be changed or is it just getting worn out after 14 years? Can a replacement be purchased without getting into ripping the old system out of the truck?

Just wondering

No problem, also sometimes helps to clean the button contacts to ensure good contact is made when you push the buttons...just use some rubbing alcohol and q tip or something like that.
