Drain coolant for t-stat change????

Default Drain coolant for t-stat change????

Is there a way to change the t-stat without draining the coolant? If it must be drained what the easiest way? Thanks guys!

No you dont have to drain the coolant all out of the system just the upper hose!! first to replace the t-stat what you need to do is take the upper radiator hose off on the radiator side first to drain the fluid out of the hose then disconnect it at the other end on the t-stat housing. Hope that answers your question any others just ask!!!

well when i changed mine i used the drain on the bottom of the radiator to drain it about half a gallon or so. its on the drivers side right above the frame i just stuck a piece of garden hose on it and led that to a bucket. then you can take the top hose off without getting coolant everywhere. and you only gotta take it off one side.

The location of the drain is highly dependant on what you have... Year, make, model... But I do agree that you should drain a gallon or so of coolant out of the system first. This should allow for a relatively mess free swap.

I dont have the drain plug on mine so I would just do take the upper hose off and then rinse the engine compartment off real good with water. just my opinion though.
