Since you are in school on the subject, can you in a few words explain to me the difference why a mercedes or volvo diesel can go by with no noise, but any US made diesel sounds like a rattle can of paint going by about to fall apart?

Exactly how old of a mercedes and volvo are we talking? My friend has an 80's turbo diesel Mercedes and it sounds just like any American truck you hear on the streets. Its pretty damn loud and has had no exhaust modifications.

I absolutely love the sound/smell of diesels. It's kinda weird that I have never owned one personally yet, but the time will come... Just the other day I was looking at a lifted 2004 Duramax we have at one of the dealers in town, but it didn't have the Allison tranny so I backed out. The lack of funds right now doesn't help either...

To tell you the truth I have never thought about that.. Are you talking about the W210 turbo diesels out of the late 90's cars? or the older 3.0 without the turbo? The older engines would definitely be easier to drop in and go, but I would prefer a turbo. I don't know too much about Mercedes though. What transmission options are there? Anything that can bolt up to a transfer case for the 4x4's?

I was researching this 3.0Lt TB diesel out of 2007,to 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee. As it looks like it might fit with a very little help. And would work well in my 98 Blazer,S10 4x4,that has 4.3 in it now.But will have to do some more research.

Im interested in what kind of tranny will bolt up to it and if the t-case will work with it. Do you know the size/ weight of the engine/transmission?

These guys sell pretty much any adapter you need, and then some.
