So last week I was having problems wit the Jimmy heatin up.....Took it in and the intake valve and the hoses needed to be replaced along with the thermostat and a radiator flush as well. 500 bucks....To top it off the guys said that the transmission fluid was burnt and that me tranny was doomed....when who knows...so today I headed for a four hour drive to a job interview...(I am a youth pastor) 2 and a half jours in my radiator blows and I get stranded.....so here comes another 500 buck job...and I am told the heater core is next...GEEEEEEEEEZ....

That stinks... Did you have the transmission flushed or atleast serviced? Transmission fluid being burnt doesn't necessarily mean that the trans is toast, but if you continue driving it on wasted fluid, the trans won't last too much longer.

What all did your mechanic recommend doing? I'm assuming that he'll be rebuilding the motor to deal with the lower end knock which that in and of itself won't be cheap.
I'm thinkin' the leaky intake manifold allowed coolant into the engine oil and severely shortened the life of the main and rod bearings.

he says best bet is to drop a re- man engine in (3yr 100,000mi warranty) rebuild the tranny, replace the radiator, and while we are at it we are going to replace the compressor....last week he flushed the radiator put new hoses on and replaced an intake valve/ gasket (not real sure sounds right) and thermostat...that was before it blew.....it is alot of cash but I owe on it, more than it is worth not running, and if I buy somethin else it is a crap shoot not knowing what i am getting....trying to weigh the options either why I am going to be flat BROKE

Its a shame to have to dump it...
Have you called around to any local salvage yards on costs for a used motor. Around me, a fairly reasonable 4.3L motor would be around $500 and then you'd have to pay to have it installed. While it's out I would have your mechanic replace the intake gaskets and really do a good job of flushing out the coolant passages in the block to make sure that you don't have any problems later on.
And was the transmission shifting poorly? Where was it leaking from? It's possible that all that it needs is a new seal or gasket, not a whole new tranny...
