Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I'm looking for a good sound, like one a Flowmaster Super 44 or Super 40 series can deliver.
I also know glasspack is good for it's loud snappy sound, especially on larger V8 motors.

I was thinking if I buy 3" pipes, and get a 3.00 in/out exhaust. That should sound pretty sweet, or I can just buy an exhaust with the normal sized in/outlets. I'm not sure yet if mine is a 2.25 in and 2.50 out like people said some were. I have pictures of the stock exhaust on my truck with the pipes running into it. Looks like it has a 2.50 pipe with a 2.25 reducer for the inlet if I'm correct.

For the glasspacks, what type glasspack is the loudest or best performance?

I personally do not like glasspacks. They deteriorate after a while. I have a FM 40 thats pretty good sounding, but its not as loud as I would like. Anyway your exhaust should be 2.5" in and 2.25" out. When you have the exhaust done, you need to pipe it out with 2.5" pipe

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I had a flowmaster 40 on my Blazer, liked it and if it was just me and my friends I would have kept it. But on any trip of distance my daughter would get headaches from the sound resonating up through the floor. I also couldn't hear her talk to me. I went with a little cheaper white box turbo muffler. Sound in the truck is a lot more comfortable for all and the tone out back deepened a little. I'll most likely go with one of the glass wrapped/packed straight through muffler next time.

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

So just buy all new 2.5 pipes?

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

also keep in mind that glasspack is not a brand of muffler but a style... all glass-pack style mufflers don't sound the same... what brand are you looking at?? dynomax, cherrybomb, etc??? I run a flowmaster super 40, its pretty nice, but it definitely doesnt turn my truck into a hot rod

dimmuborgir6nik6 12-15-2007 08:10 PM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I was looking at Dynomax, because I've heard so many times don't bother with cherrybombs unless you have a V8.
I haven't talked to anyone who's out a Super 44 on their Blazer yet. Probably because more cars have them, but I was also wondering if it was possible to run duals. I'm sure it's probably possible, but I mean, the left side of the truck doesn't look like there's too much room to run piping unless I spent a ton of money getting it custom.

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I've run:

Flowmaster 40 with Catco Cat
Cherry Bomb Glasspack with stock cat
Magnaflow 18" with Magnaflow high flow cat.

The magnaflow sounds the best, followed by the glass cherry bomb, with flowmaster being last, in my opinion.

Flowmaster is definitely the loudest... but it's not a good loud, it's a raspy, popping kind of loud.

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

Eh, I need to hear some.
Like, I like that popping kinda sound, but I've heard loud exhausts that just sound bad. I don't wanna make a pricey mistake.

Flowmaster !!

Glasspacks on our little motors make it sound way to ricey

dimmuborgir6nik6 12-16-2007 04:40 PM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

That's what I'm afraid of. That ricey sound. If I got a ricey sound, I'd rip the cat out and let it the dragon breath.

get a flowmaster 40. Thats what i got. Good tone, really sounds goodwhen its cold and just started. Im sure itsbetter than a glasspack. I would have got a borla exhaust over the flow but nobody within 30 miles carries borla.

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

i also got the 40 flowmaster and i like it, its not too loud and doesnt give the ricey sound

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

the flowmaster is loud, but does "POP" alot.... especially on a cold start, the first rev pops loud enough to almost sound like a backfire..lol

igot10pinitis 12-16-2007 05:21 PM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

not trying to argue but i do not know what kind of pop your talking about?

A lot of the exhaust has to deal with what tip you get. You don't want a tip that when you get off the gas and are coasting has that loud annoying cackling when your slowing down.

i do get a small poping sound if the rpms get up and drop quickly or i down shift to hold back coming down the mtn. but its nothing loud really

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I have stock pipe before and after the muffler... has nothing to do with the tip... cause I dont have one... neither does my buddy's 2000 with the same muffler.... makes the popping noise.... more of a gurgling sound whatever you wanna call it..lol

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...ideoID=3544036
that is mine the day I had it put on...... you can here the popping as the rpm's fall.... it sounds a bit different now..... not sure why, but it does.... and the tip on there is a $4 wal-mart clamp on stainless tip.... makes no noise...

I personally like that sound, as long as its deep and not high pitch.

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

wow man that does not sound good. Mine does not do that

blznlowxtreme 12-16-2007 05:54 PM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

mine doesnt do it that much, it sounded like that when one of weld on the baffle broke, it popped that much but w/ the new one itss sno where close to that

dimmuborgir6nik6 12-16-2007 06:28 PM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I personally like the cracking or popping sound, even when coasting. My stock exhaust doesn't pop that much, but it kinda thumps slowly. When I let go of the gas it goes *thump thump thump* and gets lower until it dies out.

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QerVtVYSzs0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QerVtVYSzs0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

You can hear it better at certain angles there, but it kinda goes *clunk clunk* or *brump brump*. Weird sounds..

I'd put a fat tip on it though. My friend put a 5 on his Dodge pickup and it looks like a diesel exhaust. I'd prob put a 4 inch tip.
And if my exhaust backfired, that would be awesome for atleast a few days..
*pop pop pop..POW*

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I have a magnaflow 18 and a magnaflow cat.It givesit a nice aggresive sounding growl when you get on the gas. This is the third vehicle that I had magnaflow installed on. I was going to get the exhaustsplit into duals, butdecided to run a 3 inch pipe straight out the back instead.

dimmuborgir6nik6 12-21-2007 08:06 AM

RE: Glasspack or Flowmaster?

I'm gonna do 2.5 since that's what most of my pipes are, and up my 2.25 tail pipe to 2.5
I'd love to do 3" but I don't wanna buy new pipes.
I've heard some Magnaflow 18's and they sounded pretty good though.
