Good price for a G80?

Depends on what you have now for gears, etc. If you have 3.73's, you should be good. Swap your gear over and properly set the shimming of the diff in the housing and you should be set. $100 isn't a bad price if it is a working diff.

is there a way to tell what gearing i have without having to take my diff cover off? its a 2000 2 door 4x4.

I think that really depends.... Some like them and some work.... it just depends

But I understand that if you were buying it to use "hardcore" then it is a waste of money

I never mentioned any hardcore use at all. The g80 blew up in my s15 with a 2.2 on low pros. Its KNOWN for having issues and if the OP is going to spend money on something then why not a better unit that will have a significant chance of not having to replace.
