I give up.
I flat rated that heater core it calls for 8.5 hours. My 97 cals for 5 hours, What makes the 98 so much harder?
I talked to a friend of mine & he said you have so much in that now you better just fix it & drive the crap out of it. I figured out the drivers door window motor is OK I can hear it working. So a guy told me it is cable driven & the clips that hold the cable are plastic & break. Does that sound right?
So I called the shop that does most of my work & they told me about $600 labor +the core.
They said they would put on a set of inexpensive ceramic pads on the rear with out turning drums & all the extra crap shops like to charge for. They would just fix what was wrong. They will fix the window & I need a speaker replaced in that door & have an extra so I'll get that done. So there goes another $1200 but cheaper than another vehicle.
So after cooling down a little I guess I'm going to fix it.
Thanks for your understanding & being a friend.
Craig
I bought a Blazer that had a lot of hidden problems & a carfax that I'm sure is not the true story. How do you wear out a set of OEM Rear brake pads in 116,000 miles as carfax stated this car had & the State of Arizona issued license plates based on that.
The only thing I can say is this Blazer leaks no oil, uses no oil & the engine is strong. The other thing I noticed was the transfer case is tight. (Not much use) So it is either buy another $4000 truck & hope for the best or fix this one. After 12,000 miles I kind of have a good idea what I have. I have to say I wondered about the heater core. I don't know if they put in a cheap one or never put on in. Or maybe it was installed wrong, causing rubbing or loose condition.
The other positive thing is I haven't had to replace things twice. I had an 86 Ford F250 4x4 That I bought with 123,000 & it was 11 years old at the time. Well I drove it 65,000 miles in 12 years & I must of replaced 3 heater cores, 3 head light switches 3 radiators, 4 alt. 2 starters rebuilt the tranny once. 5 fan clutches & the list went on. Finally one day the wife & I were pulling our travel trailer through Las Vegas on the 95 & it would hardly run. Here we are in rush hour traffic doing 5 mph. We got off the Freeway & I called a friend to come rescue us. Well we installed the third modular & when we go home 311 miles away I gave the truck away to a friend who sold it.
I bought our 99 Dodge QC 2500 4x4 V-10 5 speed & so far have had only a couple of minor issues with.
Let me guess you dont have any regrets about getting rid of that old blazer do you?If I get rid of mine Im sure Id probaly sleep better knowing that Its gone and I dont have fight with it to get work accomplished.
That's the spirit! The blazer is getting newer, piece by piece! With every failed part, you're that much closer to a new vehicle!
YES I many times wish I had my 97 Blazer 4x4 back. It gave me a 100,000 miles of great service with fixes. I had to put a fuel pump & heater core in it also.
I actually liked our 97 better than this 98.

I'll have a brand new 1998 Blazer before long, one piece at a time. Ha Ha. John Cash stole his car one part at a time. LOL
