General ChatChat about all things Blazer (and related vehicles). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.
Just arrived yesterday! Took her out for a spin; runs well. Changed the rag joint for the steering box, but I think I may need new tie rod ends too. Outside as clean as I can hope for. Needs some interior work but livable as-is. Overall super-stoked and can't wait to get her in tip-top driving shape!
Very nice Blazer. The tie rod ends and the idler arm are both areas to look at for the GM's vehicles of that era. Both are reasonable in price and ease of replacement. They will both tighten up the steering. One problem in today's market is finding a quality product Made in USA. Even the trusted old brand names like AC Delco, Moog, ProForm, and others may be made overseas. Some on this forum are shopping their local auto parts stores hoping to find the NOS=New Old Stock still on the shelves, which where made in the USA. These are getting very hard to find. Reading the text on the Auto Parts catalog NEVER tells you the point of manufacture. It will tell you a vague statement to the effect : 'Manufactured to meet or exceed the OEM standards by our highest Quality Control methods'. I have come to realize--reluctantly -- those are only code words for : Made overseas by only God knows who and we fly in our representative who doesn't speak the language once every six months to be wined and dined and give his stamp of approval. IOW good luck.
