RE: List Your Future Mods
Some time in November, I'm swapping the 17" street wheels for my 15" mudrunners. I'm getting either the Bridgestone Duelers or the General Grabber AT2s from TireRack.com. Gotta get ready for the snow and ice.
I recently purchased the Hypertech Power Programmer from a fellow BFer. (Thanks!) I haven't been able to test it yet, because I'm still working on the cooling system problem. Once all current codes are addressed, I will then start tweaking.
My mechanic has talked me out of doing a manual tranny swap, as well as the 350 swap and supercharger installation. He says my engine is in top mechanical condition, so he'd rather do an upgrade of the engine block itself. He said he's done it already on three other Blazers. Two of the three other owners are dead because they didn't respect their Blazers' newfound power. He says he can get at least 300 HP out of a Vortec without even adding a supercharger or turbo. I'm still a little skeptical, so now I really want to see him do it! If he's telling the truth, I'll post it in here. I will be assisting him throughout the whole process, so I can learn the ropes.
This reminds me...For the life of me, I can't remember which thread I had posted, where we were talking about power gains. I said that I suspected my mechanic had done something (good) to my truck the last time I had taken it to him. He told me what it was: he put in a bigger fan. I noticed while we were working on the cooling system that when the engine was running, the fan was blowing really hard in my face, which it hadn't done before. He confirmed that he had replaced it with a heavy-duty one. It makes a big difference, believe it or not!
Another project I've been contemplating is restoring an old-school Grand Prix -- 1973-77. However, I want to use my Blazer as a way to get my hands dirty first.
