Now, here in New Zealand . . . we've got 4 doors with rear mounted spares so technically these Blazers could have 2 spares without looking odd.

Hmm . . . I wonder what's under the back if there's no spare there? I'll check one tomorrow.

I like the look of the rear spare tire rack. I know everyone says throw it on the roof but, that takes up so much of the basket if I every want to use it for storage space on a trip.

I have one that I am planning on installing on my 4 door 1996 Jimmy. I picked up a used spare tire mount off of a two door the other day for $20 on craigslist.

I know there will be some challenges on mounting but think I will go through with it anyway. My father is a retired welder so fabricating something to re-enforce the structure isn't a big deal.

I know RCars2 has one installed on a 4 door and I have asked him for information on how he did it. If anyone else has done this the info would be great if shared.

I agree, the amount of bracing they put in front the factory and how hard it would be to retrofit it in the body kept me from having a rear mounted spare. It might be doable but the amount of work involved vs me just building a roof rack and putting my spare up there made my choice easy.

How did you fit it under the back? Isn't the gas tank there? Might have to look into that. How does that affect ground clearance? Mine might be different because it's a 1st gen...never looked under a 2nd...

well on the 2nd gen, our gas tank is on the side of the truck kinda, its by the driver side, not sure if its like that on all trucks or not, but either way

our spare tire holders, are big enough to fit a full size spare, and it doesnt effect my ground clearence what so ever, my underbody one has a compact spare which sucks....
