Default New Member 1st post-1999 GMC Jimmy

Hello All,

I am a new member and have questions on my vehicle. I just picked it up, and it needs some work done on it. I found this site through googling some info on help needed. I have the above year, and have started replacing some of the vacuum hoses, 5/32, and 7/32 hoses. But there is a hose on the left hand side of the radiator, and in front of the battery that is open and has a vacuum leak.I don't know where it goes, or what it's for.It also seems to be larger than the others. If needed, I can take a picture of it for the post if needed. I'm hoping to figure out where it goes, and if it's really needed. The vehicle has been modified by a prior owner, and the 4 wheel drive doesn't work. The heat blows on all of the vents from defrost, face, and feet at the same time, but does get hot. So I'm assuming the two issues so far are vacuum related. It has 151,000 miles and seems to drive fine and shifts fine.Any help is appreciated.

Jim

Jim,

Welcome to the forum. This is the place to be to get your Jimmy going and stay going.

As for your particular problems, vacuum issues are not uncommon with our trucks. After about 15 years the rubber of the hoses rots and the system leaks. Because vacuum is used for both the HVAC and 4wd system problems with one can mean problems with the other. I have a link to a thread that people seemed to find useful in my signature below regarding the replacement of all of the engine-compartment vacuum lines. If you don't have the transfer case with Auto-4wd, often referred to the 4-button 4wd system, then what I wrote will be applicable to you. If you have the 3-button system without the auto-4wd option, then there are also vacuum hoses that go to the transfer case.

Regarding your leaking hose under the battery, that is where the diaphragm for the front axle engagement is located that is vacuum actuated. You have to take the battery and battery tray out to get a good look at it. Fortunately removing the tray is not hard.

Good Luck and be sure to post question and if you figure something out, let us know what worked.
