Default question for 2nd gen owners

HI I'm looking at upgrading my current sedan with something with more space and came across the S10 blazer 2nd gen but I have some questions that I hope some of you can answer.

How is it like to live with them
do you find them to have enough cargo space for those times that you need a lot of space I.e. carrying a dryer or large drawer
what's mpg like for you

There are many factors that play a role in each question but I'm just looking for a general idea of how these cars make as daily drivers as I've never owned a GM truck before, thanks.

Hi!

These are not big SUVs. There are late model Subarus that are as large.

As for what you can haul, I'd say no to a drier, but yes to drawers from a dresser. I don't think any SUVs could fit a drier.

For hauling larger or messier loads, I have a small 8' by 4' utility trailer like the ones you can get at Harbor Frieght. This has worked great for me.

Supposedly these Blazers can get up to 22-24 mpg, but I suspect that is only posdible is a 2dr, 2wd, model with the highest axle ratio. My 4dr, 4wd, which has the lowest axle ratio gets at best about 17-18 mpg if I took off the cargo box on top and took out my extra gear.

These can be good little trucks. I use mine for hauling my sailboat with a total weight of 2,200 lbs across Washington state. The truck is rated to tow 5,500, but I'd not want to push it.

I also use it for going off-pavement for camping, etc.

Mine has the 4-button transfer case that has an Auto-4wd mode.

There is a thread, one of the sticky ones I think that has a list of the common issues these trucks can have.

The engine can be quite durable and the transmission is a prven design. Just don't tow a boat in overdrive like I did.

Hey, I own a 2000 Ls 4dr 4wd.

Like Christine stated, these aren’t super large enough to carry a full dryer. These although have good space for things like dressers, small tables, and other things of such size (Of course with rear folding seats.

The engine is very durable and has very minimal issues newer than 1999. The power produced by the engine is pretty good. 0-60 is around 9 seconds. Although its only 190 Hp, the torque is very good at 250 and you really notice it in low end.

The gas mileage is about what you would expect for a 2000s utility V6. Mine gets around 15-17 city and 19 highway. The good thing is these can take 88 gas which is cheaper.

Lookout for rust though. Make sure you find one without rusty rockers, fenders, and frame. Make sure to immediately fix surface rust.

The 4wd is very good for winter. I have a 3 button which has 4hi, 4lo, and ofcourse 2hi. I live in the midwest and I find winter driving very smooth.

Keep up on maintenance and these things last forever.

it will fit a normal residential dryer, source - done it before, fold the rear seats flat and you should just barely slide it in, modern Suburbans can fit multiple.

2dr ZR2 - and I have a Nissan Frontier 4 door. I get 10 foot precut metal in the Blazer - back seats down, passenger seat reclined and I can shut the hatch. 4 1/2 feet would be sticking out of the truck bed. I got washer in mine easily with the seats down.

2000 4dr 4wd Blazer - I too hauled a dryer last week in the snow. Would have fit better in my S10 truck but Blazer goes better in the snow ! Fold seats down it slides right in. Also occasionally haul a few 2x4s or 10ft pipe inside with front seat reclined . Also tows a trailer pretty well.
Blazer has worked well as a daily driver for almost 250k miles now. Only gets 20mpg on the highway and about 14-15 mpg in city driving . But keep up with the maintenance and it keeps on going . Anything that does go wrong with it, just search the forums for what’s going on and how to fix.

2nd gen 4 door hatchback . You can fit 500 ft of ¾ hardwood floor in the back of it. 350ft of ¼ concrete board, and about 500 sf of ceramic tile, 50 bags of motor. I'd suggest making sure you have the big rear axle though. That's about 2,000.lbs sold it with 136,000 miles and I drove it like I stole it and was running from the cops. Yes a 2nd Gen blazer is fast enough to run from the police successfuly. Yes if you had the right tires and suspension it will out handle a fox body suspension mustang. Yes I've had both as a pre adult and yes my Blazer out handled a 96 GT. And although faster the mustang landed me in the county jail, not once did the blazer. Maybe cause the blazer pedal was always all the way on the floor board. 🤔

LEGAL DISCLAIMER . IT IS ILLEAGAL TO RUN FROM THE POLICE AND NOT RECCOMENDED DUE TO HEALTH HAZARDS!!!
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO BOOT TO FACE, MULTIPLE BOOTS TO FACE, LEAD LIGNED LEATHER GLOVES TO FACE, NIGHT STICK TO FACE, PISTOL WHIPPED, TASED, TASED MULTIPLE TIMES, TASED AGAIN JUST BECAUSE!! ALL ABOVE ACTIONS MAY ALSO BE APPLIED TO UPPER AND POWER BACK, ***, PELVIC REGION, LEGS FEET, HANDS, ARMS, CHEST , STOMACH, AND HEAD!! THE LAST THING YOU MAY HERE IS, YOUR GONNA LEARN TODAY BOY! 😆
