It depends on how much money you want to spend and how much functionality you are going to need. There are two basic ways to go. First is a BT/WIFI dongle like the BAFX on Amazon and then an app for your phone. There are differences depending on IOS or Android. If you decide to go this route then we can talk which app(s) later.

After that its a dedicated hand held unit like an Innova, Autel, Vident or Acton. Beyond that are the pro level scanners like Snap on. You have to decide on what you need this scanner to do. In rough order of increasing functionality and cost:
  1. Read generic ODBII codes
  2. View generic OCBII live data
  3. Read proprietary GM codes like ABS
  4. Have bidirectional communication capability like activating a solenoid for testing
  5. Learning functions like the crank sensor
Here is a thread that might get you started. Let us know what functionality you need and your operating system:

I have an iLink one. This looks to be an updated version of the one I got a year or so ago.

The one I have is a tad kludgy to use as it is a general purpose scanner tool. I got it because it was one of the least expensive ones that would allow me to remotely activate the ABS system to allow me to do do a proper brake bleeding. It also reads some of the other codes like the ones for the SRS (airbag) system that indicate if one of the front sensors is not working correctly. This one also allows me to read codes that don't trigger the warning lights on the gauge panel.

If you just want a simple scanner that also doubles as a supplementary gauge system with engine and other system monitoring, then check out the Ultragauge ones. I have one that is the model that allows me to also read the transmission fluid temperature. I wanted this because I use my Blazer to tow a boat over long distances and over some mountains.

Thanks a lot George and Cristine.

Just I stayed on the road

I need (among others) program my Remote Control Door Lock Receiver in my Blazer 2002.
After two years without a battery, the wireless controls (keyfob) doesn´t work.

Regards,
