Okay, so last night I was at the mall, I started my truck and heard *squeak squeak*. I turned my truck off and restarted it to see if it did it again, but it didn't. I had a feeling it was my belt but didn't worry about it. Today, when I was gonna go to work, I started my truck and heard *squeeeeeeaaaaak*, my brother was standing there and told me to pop the hood, and he yells "Shut it off, shut if off!". I take a look under the hood and there's pieces of rubber all over the engine and underneath the hood. I told my brother to start it, and this time it just made a deep crumbling sound as it idled and the tension pulley kinda just wobbled back and forth. I told my dad about it and he said it's not the first time this has happened to this truck, but anyway, it's sitting in the shop now. I drove it there with the squeaking, but thankfully it didn't snap or melt on the way there. Even though it has a new engine in it, I guess it was the same pulleys.

 

New tensioner and belt and you'll be on the road again.

 

That's what I'm hoping. I just hope my mechanic doesn't take forever to fix it. I'd do it on my own but it's too cold out.

 

I hear ya on the "cold out" thing. It should take a mechanic less than an hour.

 

Hopefully, but the guy I go to usually has a line of cars to repair, including my brother's car who's been sitting there a day longer than mine has. [8D]

 

If it just a siezed or worn belt tensioner, it's just a matter of one bolt and it's off. Then put the new one on and install the belt.
Just be sure to give the other pulleys a spin to make sure they're free while the belt is off.

 

I agree with chevylover, it should take 10min.'s to replace the tensioner and test the other pulley's and if all check out then put the belt back on and there you go!!!

 

Yeah, it might be a seized tensioner because rubber sprayed all over the place, and my brother said that the belt wasn't spinning at all. That might've been an adjuration but the belt did sound really bad.

 

Yea it sounds like it is a bad tensioner, should only take 10 mins to swap out if that!!
