Default smogging a 76 blazer in california

im a 17 year old guy and my dad bought me a 73 blazer but that was a total restore and we decided we just didnt wanna do that so recently he bought me a 76 blazer that is in running order and was previously used for long distance desert racing and the problem is they took off the catyltic converters and everywhere i look to find a set that will get me california smog approved is going to cost me about a grand in total. Now im ONE year off being smog exempt but i guess thats just my damn luck, so im wondering if theirs any way im going to get this legally on the streets in san jose, california short of shelling out a thousand dollars for some extremely expensive converters.

I thought California was anything 25 years & older are smog exempt. 1976 is over 25 years old. Did you mean 1986? You are probably stuck buying the high priced converter. Because most of the aftermarket converters are NOT California approved.

california had a rolling 30 year exempt rule that was removed by the stinkin democrats back in 2001 so now its just set at 1976 and it has been for the last 8 years. im probably going to use racing fuel to pass the smog test but i have to spend 700 dollars removing my custom racing exhuast and duel exhaust pipes to make it stock again for it to be ''california smogged'' by the physical inspection unless i can find a guy who appreciates old trucks :P

I would say don't drive for a year but I'd risk getting beat by a stick lol, what about getting the cat off a later/earlier year truck from a junkyard? you've probably already thought of this though.

*EDIT* I misunderstood your post yesterday... guess you are stuck.

Actually, I believe that salvage yards are legally prohibited from selling used cats. Some kinda emission law for some reason.
