Default Spare tire carrier quick removal

Spare

So i have found my spare tire carrier to be a hindrance when i need to haul larger items that require me to travel with my tailgate down. It either swings in the breeze banging and clunking or if I strap it down it rubs up against the weatherstripping which I'm afraid is going to damage it my question is has anyone come up with a way to modify the spare tire carrier to be a quick removal unit? And if so what exactly did you do

The pins in those are reeded (like a knurl only straight) on the top. You'd have to pound them out and make some quick detach pins to take the place of them. What I'd do is take the stockers out and remove the knurled section. You may have to have them turned slightly in a lathe so they're a slip fit. The bottom of the pins have a groove in them that a cir-clip fits into. Just an idea for modding what you have. I love the color!

I just use my little utility trailer to move long items than what can fit in the back of the Blazer...or I just use my truck.

I wouldn't mess with the pins trying to make the quick and easy to remove. Pretty sure if you did that the carrier would shake, rattle and roll when you have it on. I would remove the entire thing, just keep the correct torx bit and socket if need be.
