Spectre Airfilter Warning

Spectre Airfilter Warning
Hey guys,
If any of you buy/have a Spectre reusable air filter, make sure to remove the little metal strip that goes across the filter and says Spectre on it. Took my intake off today and noticed it had gotten sucked off the filter, through the MAF, and wouldve entered the throttle body if it wasn't so long.
Luckily no damages though.
Anyone else have any horror stories involving things sucked into the engine?

See the black stripe with SPECTRE on it going the length of the filter? It's just like that, except the one I have fits in the OEM location, it's not cone style.

What are the reasons besides the trim piece? So far that's the only issue I've had with it.

Could I please get an expert's opinion of buying a Spectre CAI and then swappinng the filter with a K&N? This would be cheaper than buying the entire K&N CAI, but would there be any drawbacks?
EDIT: nevermind, I stumbled upon an answer to this question in another thread; seems pretty common.

Saw a mechanics hand get sucked into a Powerstroke turbo... He lost the tips of 3 fingers and his hand looked like a hickey from stopping the engine by blocking the intake off with his hand in it.
