Default Thinking about picking up a 1997 GMC jimmy

Since I sold my blazer, I've been regretting it. So I was looking around at my local craigslist and found a 97 Jimmy with 153000 miles on it. The body looks decent on it and has some minor rust.
Only down side it needs a rear brakes and wheel bearings and the rear diff seal leaks. The guy is asking 175o$ for it and I was wondering if that was a good deal. Any advice on it?

Thanks

Alex

If it's that cheap it probably needs some major repairs... and by what you posted, rebuilding most of the rear end is on the docket. It's cheap so if you're comfortable doing the work yourself on the rear axle it could be worth it. Or, it could end up being a mechanical nightmare.

It sounds kind of iffy since it has a lot of problems in the rear(no pun intended). But for that price and mileage(That's low miles, since it is under 210,000 which is average for that year) the deal doesn't sound too bad.

Kinda worried about the rear end also. I only need the vehicle for a couple months then I'm getting sent to BCT, which its going to sit for 6 months.

In that case, I'm sure you could dump a JY rear end in it. It'll be a couple hours of work, but it should last a couple months at least.

i say go for it. It'll be worth it. like its been said that is cheap and it does have relatively low miles for a 97. Make sure those are the ONLY problems with it though. Make sure there isn't any internal motor damage and such that they might not be telling you about in the post.

Here's what the seller said in the ad. "Minor issues: Check Engine light on for O2 sensor due to cat delete, rear diff seal leaks, airbag light on, A/C needs recharged, and fuel gauge is flaky."
I'm more than likely going to pick it up since all of these are really easy issues. Also I'm going to see if I can bring down the price a little bit
