RE: top speed

Most speedo's are quite inaccurate above regular state mandated speeds at the time of release. As most s-series trucks came stock with S (112MPH rated) or T (118MPH rated) speed rated tires, 95MPH seems about right for the speed limiter to kick in.

Due to the inaccuracies mentioned above, you could see speeds over 100 prior to the limiter kicking in.

ive taken mine up to 90mph but not for long because of my bug deflector up front my hood vibrates and thus shakes the car at 70+

Most Blazers should be governed at 98 MPH, I think, is the factory spec.
Same as most of the GM trucks as well.

There's the odd factory freak that came out with no governor, but those are usually rare.

The faster you go, the more innaccurate it gets...

Honestly, the other day I took mine up to 73mph, that's the fastest I've taken it since I bought it, 15 months ago.

I drive mine 80+ daily, bad thing?

The factory govenor limits these trucks to 98 mph... Different sized tires and drive train set ups will alter your top speed so some may go "faster" or "slower" then others...

ive noticed theres a diffrence with 1st gen and 2nd gen my mom had a 2nd get and the spedo went to 100 my 1st gen goes to 110 altho id never push mine that fast im pretty sure it would go 108 then die my moms only goes 98 i had a car that i had smashed up but it was still going i was "playing" with a couple of people goin around 110 weaving threw the traffic and as soon as i hit the limiter my car SHUT OFF!!! hows that for scary?

I wonder if GM built govenors into the export vehicles. Other than go flat out on the highway, how can I tell?

P.s. My speedo is calibrated to 180Kph (120mph) if that makes a diff.

If it hasn't been changed, I think it might be 108 MPH... Depending in which tires it came with.

If it hasn't been changed for the EU/JAP market, it should be 170-ish KPH... But will probably show as 160 KPH on the speedo, lol.

If it's been changed for the JAP maket, I think it'll only do 140KPH... I can't remember what their cut-off is... But all (new) vehicles sold in Japan are legally required to be speed limited to either 120 or 140KPH... I can't remember which.

The only way to find out is to go flat out on a race track, or otherwise non-public/traffic accessible area... We wouldn't want to cause any trouble for the police ;)

RE: top speed

As drperry eluded to, the speed limiter is based on the speed rating of the tires the vehicle was originally equiped with for the US market. For these trucks, it would be right around 105mph.

RE: top speed

I wouldn't want to do 105in a blazer... I did hit 95 in mine passing people.(speed limit was 70-75). If you want to go faster get your ecm flashed/programmed. But Drag and HP is going to be a limiting factor.

RE: top speed

its ironic, i have no rev limiter yet the second i hit 98 it feels like the tranny disconnects from the motor.

bammontana 02-28-2009 02:54 PM

RE: top speed

I have the great limiter, its called my foot:) which makes top speed around 80, if I even want to get to that. Sorry, these trucks scare the crap out of me at that speed, the are not built like a car.

And oh yea, my tires place a HUGE factor in that as well.
