Default towing on a dolly

I need to pull my 97 ls 4wd blazer 700 miles. What needs to be done to use just a two wheel dolly? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Your vehicle must have lockable steering. Check your owner’s manual if you are unsure.
  • A tow dolly cannot be used to tow mid- or rear-engine mounted vehicles.
  • Vehicles with a low front end or air dams may not have enough ground clearance to drive up the tow dolly platform.
  • The tow dolly must be attached to your Penske rental truck before loading your vehicle onto the tow dolly.
  • Your vehicle must be centered with its front end on the tow dolly facing forward. Never back a vehicle onto a tow dolly.
  • Rear-wheel, four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles must have their drive shaft disconnected and removed. Consult your auto dealer.
  • Do not load possessions, people or pets in your towed vehicle.
  • Do not attempt to back up your rental truck with the tow dolly attached. Severe damage to your vehicle and the tow dolly could result. If backing up is necessary, remove your vehicle from the tow dolly, then unhook the tow dolly from the truck and move separately.
from google. if its gonna be a one time thing you can pull the driveshafts. though alot of people i know just put their transfer case in neutral. also make sure your transfercase fluid is full too

Although I don't have to do this right now, I have wondered about this too.

When you say put the transfer case in neutral, do you mean there is another step besides putting the transmission in neutral? I'm asking because 2nd gen Blazers have push-button transfer cases that don't have a neutral option.

Is just putting the tranny in neutral good enough?

But then again, I would probably just spend the few extra dollars and get the flatbed trailer. LOL

I agree with ya on the trailer. I don't know what i would do with out mine. as far as the towing goes you have to pull the drive shaft out if the case doesn't have a neutral option, you could prolly get away with securing the drive shaft under the truck so you don't have to take it all the way out to keep the trans fluid from leaking out. I used to escort mobile homes and alot of those guys had some thing on the trans that you put it in neutral and pull a cable and i disengages the transmission then they would tow it. not sure how it works exactly though.

Towed my 84 Jimmy with a U-haul dolly. Just pulled the driveshaft. 4 bolts and it didn't leak that much. Never back the truck on is words to the wise. I watched a guy ahead of me almost flip his towing truck doing this stupod stunt. When the towed vehicle finally fishtailed to the point he couldn't control it (took about 5 seconds fom straight down the road to out of control) it whipped him across like 4 lanes of traffic sideways and then backwards. Boy were his tires smoking by the time it stopped. How nobody else got hit I'll never figure out.
