Transfer Case
I just got a '99 Blazer and I'm getting used to it. This is probably a dumb question, but I'm used to a transfer case with a lever so please bear with me! How long does it take for the transfer case to shift from 2hi to 4hi or auto 4wd? If I press one of the buttons they blink for a while before shifting. I tried a search but didn't find an exact answer.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Shouldn't take a terribly long time, however there are circumstances that could lead to longer waits. For any switch from 2HI to either of the 4HI modes, moving is probably going to result in the quickest engagements. Stopped may result in the gear train inside the transfercase not being lined up properly for smooth engagement. The same goes for returning from either of the 4HI modes to 2HI.
Now with 4LO, you really don't want to be moving much if at all due to the differences in gear ratio.
So to answer your direct question, there is no preset amount of time for a shift to happen. It is highly dependant on the vehicle and the conditions you are in.

from 2hi - 4hi it should be quick mine usually blinks ~5 times before switching while on the fly
from 4hi - 2hi should also be quick and on the fly
from 2hi - 4lo your blazer has to be in nuetral and going from 0-3mph
from 4lo - 2hi same thing
