Thanks for all the stories guys.

Im about to get out there and try to fix their Fu** up.

I wish i could find a nice local shop thats been around for ever and does good work.

Its getting harder and harder these days, especially in big cities.

If i was still in texas it would be no problem, those shops grow on trees there.

You'd be better off running a good synthetic (Amsoil?) with a good filter for 12,000 miles/1 year than getting your "oil changed" at Walmart, Jiffy Lube, or quick lube type of place every 3000 miles/3 months. The bottom shelf oil and filters are mediocre at best, and that's if the guy changing the stuff does it right.

Well the oil is changed.

The nut wasnt stripped at all!!

One corner was dinged.

Came off with 1 turn...

Anyways, so i changed the oil and i also bought new plugs, wires, rotor, distrib cap, air filter.

I wonder if these ngk plugs are pre gapped.

edit: Found the gap 0.060 so says haynes

number 3 was a pain

edit: i slide the orange rubber cover down and tried turning the shaft so the flat part is in the right spot but i just cant get my swivle socket in there..

im going to try this tool tomorrow.

O well done for the night.

Myabe tomorrow ill have better luck.

tune up day!!!

I'm in a small town. We have a couple of mechanics, a Walmart and a Jiffy Lube. I have been taking my cars to the WalMart and have had no problems. Had to take it to the Jiffy on day and by the time I got home I was down a little over a quart. I live about 30 miles from town. Took it back to Jiffy and asked who was going to pay for my new engine. (figured I would get their attention) The plug was on tight but was leaking, so the pulled the plug and the dude in the pit says, 'there is nothing wrong with this plug'. I'm old and my eye are bad, but even at 20 feet I could see something was wrong with the plug. I asked him for the plug and took it to the manager. Told him his worker said there was nothing wrong with it, even though it had only 2 threads left on it. they replaced the plug and oil and I donated the pickup to charity the next week.

agreed!

I got number 3 off after hours of trying without having to unbolt anything like the steering column.

Odly enough it was 1 bolt and very simple.

Tune up complete, truck runs great so far.

BTW i used NGK plugs and bosch wires. ac delco rotor and distributor cap.

I know alot of you swear by delco and i do like the parts but the wires and plugs are way over priced, so we will see how all this holds up.

I hope its not bad that i sorta turned this into a help thread lol.

Thanks for the help and comments.
