Default What GM "Body style".....

I have a first gen blazer 2door 2wd. 4.3 TBI

My question is, what "GM Body" class or style does that fall under, or close too. (I.E. A-Body, G-Body, etc)

i know 80's camaro parts, like rear axles and things fit with minor modification. But is it the same GM Body Style as a 1st gen Blazer??

please let me know.

from wiki:
The first compact truck from General Motors was the rebadged Isuzu KB sold since 1972 as the Chevrolet LUV. The 1973 Arab oil embargo forced GM to consider designing a domestically produced compact pickup truck. As usual, parts from other GM chassis lines (primarily from the GM G-body intermediates) were incorporated. The first S-series pickups were introduced in 1982. The Chevrolet and GMC models were identical apart from the grille, tailgate and assorted insignia. An extended cab and "Insta-Trac" four-wheel drive were added the next year along with two new engines.
Track width was similar to the former GM H-body subcompacts (Vega/Monza).120 hp 85 tq

Trucks aren't like cars and fall into body platforms (a-b-f-h-g-bodies)

You have a s/t series. The s is for 2wd and the t is for 4x4s. Commonly shortened to s-series for them all. The actual correct term for my blazer is a t10 blazer while my 2wd is s10.

The fullsizes are c/k series, c is 2wd and k is 4x4.

The 2wd front suspension is loosely based on g-body parts. That doesn't mean all off the shelf 80s monte carlo front end parts will bolt up. However as with many gm products stuff like steering boxes are used across many platforms and swap out easily.

I have to give ya credit and this is one of the better questions I've seen asked in awhile. Gets old seeing "what rims fit" or "where do I find XXXX part".

Here's a little more info: the fifth digit of the VIN on GM trucks tells what series the vehicle is. The fifth digit of a '92 Sonoma 2WD would be "S" whereas the same digit of a '97 4WD Blazer would be "T."

For cars it's the fourth digit of the VIN that tells the body style/series. My '84 LeSabre was a B-body which means the fourth digit of the VIN was "B."

Thanks everyone for all the info and input.

The reason i asked this question is cause i wanna hook a 5-speed up too my 4.3L

and found this kick *** website that offers all sortsa transmission types and install kits.

Shop by Make - GM - Transmission Kits

and they break it down into too categories/Body types
so i needed to know what Body Type my truck came closest to, to research a tranny kit.

@Toby: Your comment makes me wish i had kept the VIN from the doner truck i got the motor from, as i swapped this motor into a truck that was VIN'd for a 2.8L

However my truck is still a 2wd, so wouldn it still be a "S" series/type on the VIN anyway??

S-series are s-series.

The 4.3s were pretty much all the same when it comes to the trans. Doesn't matter what the engine was from what matters what's it in. So for trans you need a s-series trans.

Right on.
Thanks @Neo for the comment above earlier.
And everyone for their input.

Just one more question:
What is the GM Model trans they put in the S-series??
Specifically behind a 4.3L??

My buddy has a second-gen with a 2.2L/5speed.
But is it the same trans yu would hook up to a 4.3L

2.2 uses a different bellhousing pattern than the 4.3. You want a 5 speed you need to find a 4.3 5 speed donor

ok.
and as far as changing out parts in the engine block to mate the 5-speed up, what am i lookin at??
cause remember, im currently running a 700R4

and how about 5-speed, "beefing up" or "customization"??
what are my options??

(hypothetically say.... if i was gonna supercharge the 4.3L....)
