what have you gotten done on your blazer today?

I replaced the serp belt, tensioner/idler and the pcv valve. I also performed the throttle plate mod today. Runs very quiet and smooth with noticeably more response at low throttle (obviously - more air flow). 290k.

Went to the yard and got a good control arm with a nice tight balljoint. Had a mech friend with air tools press me in new bushings. Upon removing the old one i discovered that balljoint was so wore out i could flick it with my pinky..

The spring rush has slowed - finally somewhat caught up ... so yesterday I figured I'd tear into the Blazer's original engine for parts to sell, and out of curiosity as to why it burned a quart of 20W-50 in winter every 50 miles. It's been sitting in the barn for the past 2 years.
This is what I saw as I removed the intake manifold! See anything out of place there???
My wife put over 7,000 miles on this engine like this! Had a slight rod knock with light oil, but never heard anything out of the ordinary. It's a wonder it didn't slide down into the crankcase & create epic destruction. It just sat right there happily resting on the cam!!
Never seen an engine so worn out in my life. Big ridges at the top of the cylinder on all 6. Carbon buildup like I've never seen before, except on the cylinder that burned the most oil, ironically. What a mess. External parts still good though - I'll be offering those up for sale later. Valve covers, oil pan, intake, & exhaust manifolds. Rockers don't seem bad either.
This says something about suburban NYC mechanics .... (that's where I bought the Blazer .... an eBay buy ...

Deleted the remote oil filter. It wasnt too hard, and if anyone is worrying about it being hard to remove or put the filter in after this on the block.... its not. Glad to get rid of that horrible design flaw
