Question What would you do?

Long story short as possible,Last year I purchsed a 96 Jimmy cheap just needed an engine. Then I found out the trans was bad.So I rebuilt the engine had the trans rebuilt with a nice shift kit and new converter.Replaced a brake line and the gas lines. The vehicle has a straight clean body inside and out and now the front wind shield got cracked pretty bad.I have spent countless hours of time and $ looking and purchasing parts.I have been struggling trying to get the trans put in but its a job I cant do myself and dont anyone whos willing to lend a hand to help out.So what you do fix the wind shield and keep trying to complete the task at hand or just give up sell it as parts.I have been renting a garage since I dont have one of my own and its getting to the point I need to finda cheaper place to store it since winter is coming on.Im having trouble trying to make up mind.Need advice.Thanks.

So you're thinking of throwing away all the parts & time & money for a minimal return because you're frustrated?
You know the engine is solid & the trans (when you get it installed) clean body etc.
Why toss away all that you know is good & solid because you're getting fed up. Perseverance, dedication usually solves issues.
If you sell it, how much do you think you'll get for all your time, money & effort? $3000?! It's 16 years old, you may get around $3K if you're lucky.
Then you have to start all over again with another 'new to you' vehicle.
You'd go insane with what I've been/going through with mine. But I know I can't recover anywhere near the money I put into it never mind the time, research, parts etc. One woman came up to me & said (her words) OMFG that's the mack daddy of blazers! I'm looking for one & you have it lifted, big tires... do you want to sell it?
Uhhh No, you won't want to pay what I want for it. Then I started it & she asked about that funny sound - supercharger. The rebuilt upgraded trans, cam, rockers, push rods, lifters, marine intake, all the after market chit lights etc, e-fans, custom shroud - the list goes on. NM the dyno tuning at $175/hr.
How can anyone recover anywhere near any of that by selling it?
True it's a lot more than you've done but the situation is the same.
I'd keep it, find new friends that'll lend a hand & have a vehicle you're comfortable with & know personally what's gone into it.
An added bonus is that you've done a lot of the work yourself & are much more aware what's right & what's wrong & can fix issues (familiar with the vehicle). Whereas a new to you vehicle is going back to step one.

Just my opinion/feelings on the subject.

Unhappy Its more than frustation

Its the fact that everytime I make 1 step forward I get knocked back 3 steps backwads.I probaly have around $2600 with purchase cost and cost of all the partsEngine, trans, msc parts I had to replace cause the project has been apart for long.Around 1 year and 8 months. Then the cost of 4 months renting the garage. Was supposed to have help R$R with engine but the guy backed out in the middle of that step.Going out and making a freind overnight that wants to help with the trans your kidding nobody wants to help anyone anymore and do something for free.I live in apartment and we cant have nonrunning vehicles just sitting around or they get towed.Part of me wants to go on and get it done and the other part says enough is enough already.I feel like Im doing a total restore on this project but honestly if all went as it should this Jimmy should have been finsihed and on the road already. Its not even close and so much more that still needs to be done.

How come you cant do the trans alone? Put it on a jack to do the lifting...

Try posting an ad on craigslist for cheap help?

Friends aint much of friends if they wont lend a hand...

Yeah there are lots of ads for cheap labor on vehicles. People that work out of their house garage etc.
Personally I'd keep going, it's not an old truck, it's getting newer piece by piece! lol
"Labor of love, God won't give you anything more than you can handle" how ever you take it.
I just look at it like a woman (sorry ladies) but the more you honestly put in, the more you could get back - no guaranties. But at least you know you gave it your A game, best effort & a year or 3 down the road you shouldn't have any regrets (for your effort).
Even then.... "what if" <--- horrible words.
They imply a question - did I give or try enough?
I'd keep it, source out options for the trans & other issues, like reading the plethora of posts & fixes for things in here. Using the resources & have a good nights sleep knowing I got it done in an economically sound way & learned & are better for it, in many ways too I might add.

Like work, it can be a bitch, but after the end of the day I feel good because I could!
I put effort & devotion into something, didn't relent & got er done!
You do not (& I don't really care to share the issues, money, more money & more issues I've had with my blazer) but to sell it isn't a thought. More like a fleeting fart in a wind.
Do what you like & sleep with the "what if's".... just my thoughts, you asked!

Like women? Really Rotti ROFL U cease to amaze me LOL and I say if you look bak and look at all the time you have put into it you would be proud of how far you have already came even if its not as far as you hoped. If those things are all thats left then your almost done. Now my turn...Blazers are like kids, they can cost a fortune and require time and energy to assure they become the best person they can be but you cant give them up for adoption when the potty training isnt going well. So I say if the rent for the garage is more than you can afford then use that as a motivator to dive in and finish what u have started. U obvious love it or u woulda gave up long before now, so suck it up quit whining grab a beer and get going. And make sure not to bytch about it to ur friends too much cause as a female trust me when I say bytching is the fastest way to get alone time

Default Im realy surprised how dedicated some of you are about your Jimmys

Your more didicated that I am,If everything would just go in as it should I probaly wouldnt be getting discouraged as I am right now.The windshield getting cracked was just another kick in my azz.The way a board decides to fall from nowhere realy did it.Like is there is a gost in my garage that doesnt like Jimmys or am Im just suffering the worst case of bad luck ma person can have. The part about friends well those dont exist except for a few fishing buddies that I have I realy dont talk to them much except at my local fishing hole.Sourcing out the trans is an idea I had a couple of months ago.I even know someone who will let me make payments on the labor but then I have to give up the garage forsure.I just dont have enough income for both.I had another idea rent a smaller place that will cost me less that half of what Im paying on the garage but they dont have any units available till who knows when.If I could get my trans on the jack without it falling off I could probaly get the trans done if it wants to cooperate.MY jimmy is so high up in the air with the ramps I have I need to use blocks just to get it high enough up in the air to reach the engine and bolt it on.Well then its hard to balance it and keep it from falling,I have already had the happen once I used my body as a body cushion to protect the trans. Then the transfer case and cross member has to be installed.7 days and counting its either give up the garage or make another payment. Its me thats opting to give it up cause the holiday season is coming and I dont want to be broke for the next 2 months. As a few of you have mentioned yes I have alot of work and time in this project and no I dont realy want to throw it away but right I feel caught inbetween a rock and hard place on what to do.

It took me 6 weeks to pull, rebuild, and reinstall my tranny. Did I get frustrated? Yes. Walk away for however long it takes. Work a little at a time. Some days are more productive than others and that will give you the excitement back. Dont quit now, you`ve come to far. If you get rid of it, next year you`ll be saying it would have been done right now, and you`ll be pissed at yourself

i did my trans on my own...now granted some was a little easier because i have a bod lift on it.

what i did was get a 2x12 of about 12ft or so..and make it into roughly 1ft squares...i then placed stacks on either end of the tranny with the jack in the middle...i then jacked it up and added boards as needed to balance. it took me two day but i got it done.

on the other advice issue...look at it this way. if you sell it and get another ride there is no promise that that ride wont have something go wrong down the road...right now you have a leg up on the problem...i know you dont think so but you do. sure the labor is a hang up but when done you have a solid ride with a rebuilt engine and trans. that is worth alot esp going up against selling and losing your time plus the gamble of what issues the next "new" to you ride would have.

hang in there...it will be worth it in the end. setbacks are just setbacks...take a deep breathe and get back on the horse.
