Question What's This?

I was replacing an LED in the cluster gauges & saw this box thing had come loose. It had been tied in with a cable tied to the steel plate below the steering column..

I think it may be for the central locking. Not sure.

I've got one of those too. I thought it had something to do with the immobilizer. but I don't know for sure.

I'd lean towards an aftermarket RKE module.

Think I can unplug it & chuck it out?

It'll make my truck lighter & less rattley! LOL

Thats an aftermarket RKE/Remote start module. If you unplug it you may find your truck wont start or unlock... I would leave it be. Or pop into a stereo shop and see if they can sell you a keyfob so you can use it... Is there any brands and part numbers on it? One of us might be able to get you a remote on this side of the pond and mail it to you if its american stuff, programming them is easy.

Could also be an alarm system, there is extra plugs on the one side for the extra options... Do you have a siren mounted under the hood? Is there a red LED on the interior that is always on cause the alarm is malfunctioning?

Truck had stock locking system & key fob which recently packed up so had local unit fitted & this must be it! Clearly the guy did not hide it well enough & now it's come loose & dropped down.
Thanks guys.
